He is one of the greatest portrait artists, producing unrivaled portraits of nobles and royalty. Bosch The career of Hieronymus Bosch is among the most mysterious of all the great artists of history. Though he was well-known by the time of his death in 1516, virtually nothing of his life is known today. His surviving works are also enigmatic, filled with symbolic images of the Middle Ages. Bosch's remarkable visions of the fantastic have great appeal today. Bruegel The life of Pieter Brugel the Elder will always remain something of a mystery. There are few details of his 16th-Century life. He was deeply inspired by his great Dutch predecessor, Hieronymus Bosch. His depictions of peasant life are amongst the greatest in Western Art.
