The hand-woven Persian rugs made in the towns of Ferahan, Lylyan, Mahallat, Jozan, Malayer, Meshkabad, Mirabad, Sarough, Seraband and many small Kurdish villages are marketed in the city. In 1883 the first rug exporter set up shop in Arak and by the early 20th century, the city had become a key center of the rug exporting business.
